Why does Rising Sun Animal Hospital offer alternative therapies and medicine?
Early out of vet school, Dr. Metos felt frustrated with the limitations of Western Medicine for senior pets and patients with cancer. She wanted to learn healthier alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs with less harmful side effects and learn preventative medicine to try decrease pets risks of developing cancer. Dr. Metos became interested in learning alternative medicine in 2014 after working with a veterinarian that practiced homeopathy and another veterinarian that practiced Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and mushroom food therapy. Dr. Metos studied at the Chi University to become the second certified Chinese Veterinary Herbalist and the first certified Tui-na Veterinary Practitioner for the state of Idaho.
How long are the appointments?

Appointments for annual exams and sick visits for dogs and cats are 30 minutes. For exotic pets, these exams may run a little longer. First-time appointments for Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine such as acupuncture, Tui-na, and Chinese herbal medicine are 45 minutes. If diagnostics or additional treatments are performed, the appointments may run longer.

Please note: We understand that your time is extremely important, and our goal is to see all our clients and patients on time. Although we have contingencies for emergencies, there will be times where the unexpected will create delays. We will ensure these are minimized as much as possible.

What do I expect as a new client of Rising Sun Animal Hospital?
As a new client of our veterinary hospital in Nampa, ID, you can expect our full attention to your pets’ needs. When you arrive for your appointment, you will be greeted warmly, and we’ll usher you and your pet into an examination room after checking in at the front desk. The either one of our veterinary technicians or veterinarians will ask about your pet’s medical history, current condition, and the reason for your visit. The veterinarian will perform a physical examination on your pet, ask you further questions, and then may recommend diagnostic tests if needed. An estimate will be provided for the costs of said recommendations. Once tests have been performed at the hospital, the veterinarian will discuss a possible diagnosis and treatment plan if warranted. This is a great time to ask our staff questions. We want to make sure you’re completely comfortable with the information we’re providing. The veterinary nurse will then process your payment and schedule any needed follow-up.
